Rachel’s Lament

Tuesday, the nation of Israel finally closed a painful chapter from the 2006 Lebanon War when they received the remains of Elad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser, two IDF soldiers who were captured. While Israel rejoices at the thought of their soldiers coming home… the price they paid to see that end was horrifying. As Regev and Goldwasser came home, a child murderer was returned to his people with celebrations and dancing.

here are excerpts  describing this horrifying scene…

The Jerusalem Post: In 1979, Kuntar and 3 other gunmen made their way in a rubber dinghy from Lebanon to Nahariya (on Israel’s northern coast). There they killed a policeman who stumbled upon them, then burst into the apartment of Danny Haran, herding him and his 4 year old daughter, Einat, at gun point to the beach below, where they were killed.

Maariv’s description in 1979: After drowning Danny Haran, Kuntar turned his attention towards the 4 year old girl. He took his rifle and swung it across the toddler’s head, knocking her to the ground. Kuntar then dragged her to the closest rock. Einat instinctively covered her head with her arms. Kuntar cleared her arms out of the way. Then he beat her repeatedly on the head with the butt of his rifle and stomping on her body, until blood rushed out of her mouth and ears. He continued beating her over the head until her skull was crushed (Wikipedia).

This is by far the worst level of hatred I have ever seen. For centuries Jacob and Esau have been at war. But, the prophecies still ring true… Jacob will see no peace until the end when Messiah returns. To see an entire nation celebrating the return of a child murder is terrible and the reality of the nations hatred of Israel is made even more evident. A horrifying reality is that this is only going to get worse for the nation of Israel in the days to come.

While I was reading the things posted above, a mourning was released me that I have never felt before. This reminded me of the lamenting of Rachel. While not a direct meaning this verse reminds me of the hurting heart of God for his children, Israel. While Regev and Goldwasser were not babies, they were Jews, the chosen people of God and our brothers according to the election.

Jer 31:15  Thus saith the LORD; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.

Then as I mourned for this, the reality of the heart of God for his son who’s gone astray was made evident to me. While Israel is lost and bound for hell without the atoning sacrifice. The Lord has given the church a commission that the church as largely ignored.

Isa 62:6  I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence,
Isa 62:7  And give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.
In the throes of Christian Zionism we find that holding meeting to ‘honor’ Israel are severely lacking in the desired effect that the Lord desires. There is a problem church, and there is only one remedy. The day is coming when ALL of the nations will be gathered against Israel and will seek her destruction. The Lord is desiring a bride that will set aside what is relevant to her and embrace his heart. The reality of the Lord and his zeal for Israel is clear…

Zec 1:14  So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

Has the church embraced this zeal? No. We forget the reality of God and his heart. We are content with trying to be good christians until the Lord comes back. Scenes like the one we as a nation witnessed with Regev and Goldwasser are going to be commonplace throughout the years ahead until that great day when all Israel will call upon the name of Yeshua and call him back according to the Matthew 23:37-39 prophecy that Jesus himself said… that they would not see him again until THEY say Baruch Haba Bashem Adonai.. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. The reality of Israel is that Jesus isn’t coming back until THEY say it. Which is the reason that Satan is bombing Jerusalem, not mega ministries. The reality that without Israel, there is no second coming and there is no kingdom on earth as we so desire… if that’s not relevant to me… then I don’t know what is.

We as a church need to stand up and truly say with all of our hearts… It’s not about me.. it’s about you God and your plans for the earth. You want Israel, then we want it too. I don’t care how out of the way it is for me, Lord YOUR KINGDOM COME YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. Amen.
